The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has been officially designated as the host of the 2023 Broadcasting Conference. This conference is part of the annual program organized by the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) Central in collaboration with 12 partner state universities (PTN) participating in the Television Broadcast Program Quality Research. The agreement to hold the 2023 Broadcasting Conference was formalized by signing a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between KPI Central and FISIP USU on Monday, March 20, 2023. The memorandum of understanding outlined key points regarding the conference implementation, scheduled for July 27, 2023.
This collaboration aims to enhance higher education performance in broadcasting-related conferences while fostering synergy, communication, and public literacy regarding broadcasting in Indonesia, particularly with KPI’s role and policies.
The central theme of the 2023 Broadcasting Conference is:
"Broadcast Digitalization: Challenges and Obstacles in Achieving Pro-Public Broadcasting."
Additionally, six sub-themes will be explored in detail:
- Local Content in Digital Transformation
- Journalism in the Digital Era
- Marginalized Communities and Digitalization
- Digital Communication, Media, and Cultural Transformation
- Media Literacy in the Digital Age
- Elections and Broadcasting in the Digital Era
To enrich the 2023 Broadcasting Conference, several pre-events will be held as part of Broadcasting Week. These will feature talk shows, broadcasting exhibitions, and national competitions involving students from various universities across Indonesia.

- Video Campaign Competition
- Video Reportage Competition
- Short Film Competition
- News Anchor Competition
- Vlog Competition
These competitions aim to liven up the conference and strengthen academic connections beyond the faculty level, extending to student communities across Indonesia. The 2023 Broadcasting Conference and its competitions will contribute to Indonesia's healthy, outstanding, and dignified broadcasting.
