Undergraduate Program in Sociology

Established in 1983, the Undergraduate Program in Sociology focuses on studying the structure of society, social interactions, social behavior, community problems, social phenomena, and social movements.

Emphasizing student-centered learning based on E-Learning, USU's Undergraduate Program in Sociology is backed by a conducive academic atmosphere, followed by experienced and nationally certified teaching staff highly dedicated to educating their students. Our study program is strongly committed to shaping our students into future social researchers, community empowerment agents, and novice social and development planning consultants who possess independence, critical thinking, discipline, and strong competitiveness.

History

1980

The Sociology Study Program was established based on the Decree of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Rector No. 1181/PT.05/C.80 dated July 1, 1980.

1983

Then strengthened by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 0535/O/1983

1987

After consideration from all educational and administrative staff devices, the Sociology Study Program began accepting interested students through the State University Entrance Examination (UMPTN) route, now renamed the Joint Selection for University Entrance (SBMPTN).

2003

In line with the change in USU's status to a State-Owned Legal Entity (BHMN) in 2003, there was also a change in name from the Department to the Sociology Study Program.
