The Secretariat of the North Sumatra Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Sumut), in collaboration with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and News & Rhythm, held a public discussion entitled “Parlemen Goes to Campus” on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The event carried the main theme “Students in the Digital Era: Politically Critical, Media-Savvy, and Committed to Healthy Democracy.” The event was designed as an interactive political education forum to bridge parliamentary dynamics with the critical ideas of young people in the era of digital intelligence.
The strategic event featured three distinguished speakers with expertise in their respective fields: Deputy Speaker of the North Sumatra DPRD H. Salman Alfarisi, Lc., M.A.; Dean of FISIP USU Dr. Hatta Ridho, S.Sos., M.SP.; and Lecturer of the Political Science Study Program at FISIP USU Ira Rizka Aisyah Lubis, S.Sos., M.Si. In their presentations, the speakers emphasized the importance of digital media literacy so that students can go beyond being mere consumers of information to critically filter disinformation and express their political aspirations wisely, ethically, and constructively in support of a healthy democratic life in Indonesia.
The forum was expected to attract considerable public interest, not only from students attending the event in person but also from the wider community. The entire event was livestreamed through the News & Rhythm news portal and its official social media channels. Through collaboration among academics, legislators, and media organizations, the event was expected to encourage young people to take an active role as intelligent, critical, and integrity-driven pillars of democracy.
