As a concrete implementation of their cooperation agreement in the fields of education, research, community service, and human resource development, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FISIP USU) collaborated with the North Sumatra Association of Addiction Counselors (IKAI Sumut) to successfully organize the Treatnet Volume A Addiction Counselor Training. The strategically important training was held over five days, from August 10 to 14, 2026, on the FISIP USU campus.
The training featured National Trainers and internationally certified facilitators from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Colombo Plan as key speakers. Through intensive training based on international standards, participants were equipped with in-depth competencies and clinical skills in addiction treatment and counseling.
The program is expected not only to strengthen the professional capacity of addiction counselors in North Sumatra but also to enhance the quality of human resources working in addiction rehabilitation. The collaboration further demonstrates FISIP USU’s active role in contributing to the management of social and public health issues through education, capacity building, and community engagement.
The initiative is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being, particularly through efforts to strengthen capacity in addiction treatment and support improved health and well-being within the community.
