On Friday, February 7, 2024, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Bima Arya Sugiarto, visited the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and engaged in a discussion with its academic community. The discussion focused on strategic issues regarding the revision of the Electoral Law.

In his opening remarks, Bima highlighted the urgency of drafting policy recommendations for amendments to the Electoral Law and the Law on the Election of Governors, Regents, and Mayors. The urgency stems from two regulations governing the same regime, problematic legal foundations, and the Constitutional Court's final and binding mandate.

Bima also outlined the direction of the revision, which aims to strengthen the presidential system, enhance the quality of representation, simplify the party system, ensure consistency in the concept of regional autonomy, and reinforce national integration. During the discussion, Bima expressed his interest in hearing input and perspectives and proposed solutions from the academic community of FISIP USU.

Eight FISIP USU academic community members, including lecturers and students, shared their views and provided feedback to Bima as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs. They hoped the revision process would consider insights from the academic sector.
