The leadership succession of the Association of Master's Students in Communication Science (IMAMIKOM) FISIP, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), has entered a new chapter with renewed spirit. The IMAMIKOM management for the 2026–2027 period was officially inaugurated as part of the Meet & Greet 2026 activities at Hotel Selecta Medan on Friday (September 25, 2026).
The activity served as a moment to strengthen relationships among new students, senior students, alumni, lecturers, and the management of the Master's Program in Communication Science, FISIP USU. In addition to serving as an introduction event, the activity also marked the beginning of the new management, which will continue the organizational leadership of IMAMIKOM.
The Head of the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Communication Science, FISIP USU, Prof. Dr. Iskandar Zulkarnain, M.Si.; Secretary of the Master's Program in Communication Science, FISIP USU, Dr. Haris Wijaya, S.Sos., M.Comm.; as well as several lecturers and study program administrators also attended the activity.
Prior to the Meet & Greet, the election process for the Chairperson of IMAMIKOM for the 2026–2027 period had been conducted. Saddam Wira Hamdani was subsequently elected to continue the organization's leadership.
The Head of the Master's and Doctoral Programs in Communication Science, FISIP USU, Prof. Dr. Iskandar Zulkarnain, M.Si., emphasized the importance of IMAMIKOM as a space for students to build communication, collaboration, and capacity development beyond academic activities.
“IMAMIKOM is not only a student organization but also a space to build togetherness, exchange ideas, and develop communication skills. I hope that the new management can continue the good things that have been done previously while also introducing new ideas and activities that are beneficial to students,” said Iskandar.
Meanwhile, the elected Chairperson of IMAMIKOM for the 2026–2027 period, Saddam Wira Hamdani, described the responsibility as an opportunity to learn and grow together. He wants the new management to bring a spirit of collaboration and make IMAMIKOM an open space for all students.
“Being part of the IMAMIKOM management is not only about holding a position, but also about carrying a responsibility and having an opportunity to learn together. We want IMAMIKOM to be a space for students to get to know one another, discuss, exchange ideas, and build togetherness,” said Saddam.
The Chairperson of IMAMIKOM for the 2025–2026 period, Mhd. May Fazri, also stated that leadership succession is part of the organization's regeneration process. “Each period has its own challenges and spirit. This succession does not mean starting everything from the beginning, but continuing the good things that have already been built and developing them with new ideas. I hope the 2026–2027 management can make IMAMIKOM increasingly solid and provide broader opportunities for students to contribute,” he said.
The new management is expected to strengthen communication and collaboration among students and create various activities that not only support academic activities but also expand opportunities for student capacity development.
The Meet & Greet and inauguration activities marked the beginning of a new period for IMAMIKOM with a spirit of togetherness. The presence of new students also provided additional energy for the organization to continue developing and creating a more open space for interaction among all students of the Master's Program in Communication Science, FISIP USU.
