Students from Pijar Universitas Sumatera Utara (Persma Pijar USU) successfully held the Pijar Grand Competition (Jargon) Workshop on Thursday, May 25, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM WIB. This workshop was part of the Pijar Grand Competition (Jargon) 2023 series, serving as the event's highlight and the moment to announce the competition winners, which took place a few days before the workshop.

The workshop featured Usman Kansong, Director General of Public Information and Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Dirjen IKP Kominfo), as the main speaker. Students from Universitas Sumatera Utara and offline competition participants attended the event. Additionally, Pijar invited Agnes Sinambela, a reporter from Daai TV, and Nofri Affandi, a TVOne Bureau Sumatra reporter, as guest speakers.

This year's workshop focused on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism, the role of journalists in the era of citizen journalism, and press ethics and freedom. Titled "The Art of Journalism," Workshop Jargon 2023 was held at the Aula of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

The Jargon 2023 competition opened for registration on May 8. It features five competition categories: article writing, journalistic photography, graphic design (conducted online), high school debate, and live reporting (conducted offline).

Raymond Putra Pratama Silalahi, the Chairperson of Jargon 2023, shared the reasoning behind organizing this event—to equip future journalists with knowledge and appreciation for the art of journalism.

"Jargon was born out of our concern for the next generation, who are passionate about journalism. In today’s era, anyone can become a journalist, but not everyone understands the art of being one. That’s why Jargon - The Art of Journalism was created: to provide knowledge about the artistry in journalism. We also offer a platform for students and university students to showcase their talents through the competitions we organize," he explained.

The event concluded with announcing and awarding winners from each competition category. Additionally, the competition winners were announced live on Instagram via @pijargrandcompetition.
