The Community Service Team of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, carried out a concrete initiative by assisting residents of Cinta Damai Subdistrict, Medan Helvetia District, in creating biopore infiltration holes. Led by the Secretary of the Undergraduate Program in Public Administration, FISIP USU, Siti Hazzah Nur. R, S.Sos., M.AP., this program was designed as a solution-oriented and sustainable measure to reduce the risk of annual flooding that frequently affects local residential areas, particularly in Neighborhoods 4, 5, 7, and 8.
This environmental initiative was warmly welcomed by local government officials and residents, who enthusiastically participated in each stage of the practical biopore-making process in the field. Through direct education and assistance, the community was not only provided with a deeper understanding of the effectiveness of biopores in increasing groundwater absorption capacity but was also encouraged to independently maintain their residential environment so that it becomes more resilient to the threat of flooding in the future.
