Tuesday, August 20, 2024, commemorating the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KEMENLU RI) held a Public Lecture simultaneously in 38 Provinces. In North Sumatra, KEMENLU RI worked with the Universitas Sumatera Utara to organize this activity. Themed “A Decade of Indonesia's Foreign Policy Journey,” this activity was attended by Vice Rector III, who opened the event, Diana E. S. Sutikno and Dr. Hatta Ridho, S.Sos., MSP as speakers, and Dr. Jelly Leviza, SH., M.Hum who acted as moderator. Taking place in the Academic Senate Room of the Rectorate Building, the public lecture was also attended by students as participants.
Diana, who is a Senior Diplomat at the Center for Policy Strategy for the Asia Pacific and Africa, in her presentation, explained the Priorities of Indonesian Foreign Policy, namely, Economic Diplomacy, Diplomacy for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, Sovereignty Diplomacy, Increasing Indonesia's Contribution and Leadership in the Region and the World, and Diplomacy Infrastructure. Dean of FISIP USU, Hatta Ridho, also added in his presentation entitled Reflection on “A Decade of Indonesian Diplomacy” that over the past decade, Indonesia's foreign policy has shown significant development. “Indonesia has played an increasingly active role in the global arena, strengthening its position as an important player in the Southeast Asian region,” he said.
The public lecture was held to provide education and increase engagement with foreign policy, and is expected to increase public awareness of the importance of foreign policy.
