Five students from the Undergraduate Program in Political Science at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) have embarked on their academic adventure by participating in the Student Exchange Program at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

The student exchange program offered by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) allows students to participate in academic programs at partner universities or institutions abroad. This program aims to expand students' educational horizons and cultural experiences and enrich their knowledge and skills in an international context. Students participating in this program can study at a partner university in Malaysia for a certain period, usually one semester.

Some general requirements include that prospective exchange students must be active at their home university and enrolled in the Undergraduate Program in Political Science or other related programs. They must meet academic requirements and have a good academic record. Additionally, students may need to demonstrate adequate language proficiency, significantly if the language of instruction at the partner university differs from that at UiTM. They must be proficient in the required language to participate in the program and attend lectures at the partner university. Another requirement is that the partner university may require good academic performance as a selection criterion. Students with a strong academic track record and impressive achievements will have a better chance of being selected. Lastly, prospective participants may be required to prepare documents such as a motivation letter, academic transcripts, recommendation letters, and other application forms according to the requirements set by UiTM or the partner university.

The five students' names are Angelita Situmorang, Jonamso Todo Parasian Simbolon, Sela Marlina, Sonia Maharani Marpaung, and Tiara Anjelika Simangunsong.

These five Political Science students have the opportunity to study at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

USU Political Science students engage in various academic activities during this exchange program, including special lectures, seminars, and group discussions. They can study relevant international topics, including current global issues.

One of the most valuable experiences was attending a seminar held at the Malaysian Parliament. They were invited by Prof. Dr. Mayda Sarah (Lecturer of Asian Politics) to attend the Parliamentary Lecture Series 2.0 of 2023, themed "Budi Membentuk Tamadun dalam Konteks Masyarakat Madani." This event featured several notable speakers, including YB Senator Sri Dato’ Sri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim, President of the Dewan Negara, YB Dato’ Johari bin Abdul, Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, YB Wong Chen, Member of Parliament for Subang, and YBhg Dato’ Dr. Afifi Al-Akiti, Lecturer at the Faculty of Theology, Oxford University.

This was an incredible opportunity for them to meet directly with Malaysian state officials and listen to speakers' perspectives on the role of virtue in shaping civilization within the context of a civil society.

Beyond academic activities, the student exchange program includes cultural and social activities under the theme "Exploring Malaysia: Culture and Heritage." Students will interact with local and international students at the partner university and have the opportunity to learn about the culture, history, and daily life of the country they are visiting. This program may include visits to historical sites, participation in cultural events, social activities, and meetings with local communities.

The Undergraduate Program in Political Science at USU hopes to develop further collaboration and knowledge exchange with other institutions through this student exchange program. This program proves that international exchange can be an effective means to broaden students' perspectives and enrich their experiences in the field of political science.
