The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FISIP USU), once again demonstrated its commitment to strengthening international networks through the organization of a Free Yoga Class in collaboration with the Consulate General of India in Medan and Yogmantra Bali. The event, held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the FISIP USU Hall, was attended by lecturers, administrative staff, and students as part of efforts to foster closer collaboration between higher education institutions and international partners.

This activity represents one of the many initiatives developed through the ongoing partnership between FISIP USU and the Consulate General of India in Medan. Through cultural, educational, and quality-of-life development approaches, both institutions seek to provide programs that not only broaden the global perspectives of the academic community but also offer practical benefits in everyday life.

Yoga was selected because it is one of India’s cultural heritages that has been widely recognized and practiced across the world. Beyond being a form of physical exercise, yoga plays an important role in maintaining balance between physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Therefore, this activity served as an ideal platform to introduce Indian culture while encouraging participants to adopt healthier lifestyles amid the demands of academic and professional responsibilities.

Participants were introduced to breathing techniques, concentration exercises, and various yoga movements designed to improve flexibility and help reduce stress levels.

For FISIP USU, the significance of this event extends beyond physical exercise. The Free Yoga Class forms part of the faculty’s broader internationalization efforts through collaboration with foreign diplomatic institutions. The participation of the Consulate General of India in Medan reflects the strong relationship that has been established between the two institutions in supporting programs aimed at enhancing the capacity of the academic community.

The collaboration also highlights the growing opportunities for cross-cultural interaction within the university environment. Through activities such as this, students not only gain new knowledge about the culture of another country but also develop a broader understanding of the importance of international cooperation in the era of globalization. Cultural exchanges fostered through simple initiatives like a yoga class can serve as a form of cultural diplomacy that strengthens relationships between nations.

The partnership between FISIP USU and the Consulate General of India in Medan has previously been realized through various educational, cultural, and student development programs. The Free Yoga Class represents another tangible step in strengthening this relationship while opening opportunities for broader collaboration in the future.

Through the implementation of this activity, FISIP USU hopes to continue offering international programs that provide meaningful benefits to its academic community. In addition to promoting participants’ health and well-being, the event reflects the faculty’s commitment to creating an inclusive and globally oriented academic environment capable of fostering productive relationships with international partners.
