As the first doctoral program in the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Faculty of Social and Political Sciences established in 2012, the Doctoral Program in Development Studies provides multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary education in the social science field.
Accommodated by qualified educational facilities and infrastructure, our study program is also supported by the best lecturers who are experts, capable in development studies andghly committed to teaching. The USU Doctoral Program in Development Studies focuses on studying, researching, and solving social development problems in a comprehensive education-oriented manner that emphasizes finding alternatives to solving actual problems. Our study program is responsible for preparing qualified, capable, and professional alums, who, in their profession, have comprehensive knowledge and practical abilities to study and develop development programs and can establish integrated policies.

- Organize multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary doctoral-level education and teaching programs in the field of social sciences that juxtapose and elaborate local knowledge of North Sumatra to produce graduates who can study, research, and solve social development problems comprehensively with an educational orientation that emphasizes aspects of finding alternative solutions to actual issues based on scientific studies, morals, and conscience.
- Carry out and develop the quality of academic research and multidisciplinary scientific development to produce new theories, thoughts, and concepts.
